Intro

In 1987, Arnold Schwarzenegger shocked the wrestling world by taking an active role behind the scenes in the newly rebranded World Championship Wrestling. Fourteen years later, WCW is an international company in long-standing alliances and wars, with a product and an image molded by its owner. Follow the company as it continues its history and shows the world what it truly means to be the best.

(Outside of universe, this is a diary for my long-running TEW save started in Genadi's The Superfly Effect database, that I have played up to 2001 over the span of four years. There's a lot of history that has been changed, so every so often I'll try and play catchup - but otherwise, let me take you for a ride!)

WCW Bash at the Beach 2003

46,508 in attendance at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville, VA.
Nitro commentary by Jim Ross & Don Callis. Thunder commentary by Mike Tenay, Don West, & Jesse Ventura. Cross-brand commentary provided by Mauro Ranallo & Paul Heyman.

The second biggest show of the year, the bash of the summer, and the one you've all been waiting for, Bash at the Beach is the first major cross-brand pay-per-view of 2003. Both world championships are on the line, as are both sets of tag titles and both midcard titles! Additionally, catch a special cross-brand singles match and the grudge match between Vampiro and Randy Savage to be held in a barbed wire cage! This is Bash at the Beach, below the break!

1. WCW Cruiserweight: Perro Aguayo Jr. defeated Kaz Hayashi in 13:33 with La Lanza to make his ninth defense of the cruiserweight title.
2. Hiroyoshi Tenzan defeated Matt Hardy in the first appearance of his two-date loan, as part of a special agreement with All Japan. Tenzan won with the Tenzan Tombstone Driver in 7:21.
3. In a match where Dusty Rhodes was the special guest referee, the team of Maven Huffman & Dragonism (Dragon Hiroshi & Tatsumi Fujinami) defeated Dustin Rhodes, R.C. Haas, & Big Van Vader. Maven pinned Dustin after Dusty got involved, stopping his son from bullying the rookie and allowing Maven to take advantage. The match went 10:17.

4. WCW World Tag Team: The Enlightenment (Osamu Nishimura & Akira Taue) defeated First in Flight (Billy Kidman & Shane Helms) in an amazing match that ran 15:19. The ending saw Taue take Helms out with the Nodowa Otoshi.
5. Bob Sapp defeated Bison Smith in a clash of undefeated strongmen, laying Smith out with the Beast Lift in 7:28. During the match, Sapp became the first person to break out of Bison's iron claw.
6. Rob Van Dam defeated Kevin Nash with a Five Star Frog Splash after 11:24. This was yet another fantastic match.

7. WCW International Tag Team: Dudley Boyz defeated Steiner Brothers in a great match after Bubba Ray covered Rick following a 3D, 15:15 into the match. The Dudleyz made their third defense.

8. WCW National Openweight: Kanyon defeated the Knockout Club's Yoshihiro Takayama in 9:33 after Bob Sapp interfered to attack Takayama.
9. In an amazing encounter, Kurt Angle defeated Christian Cage in 12:54 with the Ankle Lock.
10. Brock Lesnar defeated Chris Jericho in 14:04 with the F-5. This was an amazing cross-brand match, spurred on by Brock's desire to face the first man to beat Goldberg.

11. WCW United States Heavyweight: Eddy Guerrero defeated Tito Santana to become the new United States Heavyweight champion in a generation-spanning dream match. Eddy hit the Frog Splash in 5:58 to send Tito Santana off.
12. Jeff Hardy defeated Dwayne Johnson after hitting the Swanton Bomb in 13:21, in what was certainly the match of the night.

13. DREAM World Tag Team: BATT (Keiji Mutoh & Taiyo Kea) defeated Ric Flair & Jeff Jarrett of the Four Horsemen in 16:16 after Kea hit Jarrett with the Hawaiian Crusher.

14. WCW International Openweight: Knockout Club leader Ken Shamrock defeated Sting in a Lion's Den match, making his second defense of the International Openweight championship. Though Sting put up a great fight, the mixed martial arts style of the match favored Shamrock, and he was able to sink in an Ankle Lock after 15:36.
15. Vampiro defeated Randy Savage in a Barbed Wire Steel Cage match to blow off their feud which stems all the way back to February of last year. Vampiro hit Savage with the Nail in the Coffin after 15:52.

16. WCW World Heavyweight: Goldberg defeated Steve Austin to become the WCW World Heavyweight champion for a second time, ending Austin's reign at eight defenses. Goldberg took home the title with a Jackhammer in 8:31. Though this was a good match, it didn't meet the high expectations set for it, as Austin and Goldberg didn't seem to click very well.
