Intro

In 1987, Arnold Schwarzenegger shocked the wrestling world by taking an active role behind the scenes in the newly rebranded World Championship Wrestling. Fourteen years later, WCW is an international company in long-standing alliances and wars, with a product and an image molded by its owner. Follow the company as it continues its history and shows the world what it truly means to be the best.

(Outside of universe, this is a diary for my long-running TEW save started in Genadi's The Superfly Effect database, that I have played up to 2001 over the span of four years. There's a lot of history that has been changed, so every so often I'll try and play catchup - but otherwise, let me take you for a ride!)

Fireworks fill the air as commentary welcomes us to Great American Bash 2001! The halfway point of the wrestling year, it's sure to be one hell of a show tonight! With a double-header main event of two world title matches (the first putting Chris Jericho (c) against Mike Awesome for the WCW World Heavyweight championship, and the second putting Kanyon against Lance Storm (c) for the WCW International Heavyweight championship), and a Hart Foundation clash, this is the show to define the first half of 2001! WCW World Heavyweight Championship History as of July 2001

 

The symbol of excellence in professional wrestling since its creation in 1986, the WCW World Heavyweight championship has been held by some of the most iconic wrestlers in the history of the industry. While the NWA World Heavyweight championship was also recognized until 1995 (with a brief break in late '86 and early '87), the WCW World Heavyweight title has been considered the be-all end-all of professional wrestling since 1986.
