Intro

In 1987, Arnold Schwarzenegger shocked the wrestling world by taking an active role behind the scenes in the newly rebranded World Championship Wrestling. Fourteen years later, WCW is an international company in long-standing alliances and wars, with a product and an image molded by its owner. Follow the company as it continues its history and shows the world what it truly means to be the best.

(Outside of universe, this is a diary for my long-running TEW save started in Genadi's The Superfly Effect database, that I have played up to 2001 over the span of four years. There's a lot of history that has been changed, so every so often I'll try and play catchup - but otherwise, let me take you for a ride!)

WCW Halloween Havoc 2001

21,000 in attendance at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, MI.
Commentary by Jim Ross and Mike Tenay.

The Hart Foundation explodes over the World Heavyweight Championship as Bret Hart attempts to keep control, Keiji Mutoh and Mike Awesome settle their rivalry inside a steel cage, Vampiro attempts to baptize Raven through blood, and D'Lo Brown finally gets his singles match against Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat. All this and more, coming to you live - from WCW Halloween Havoc!

1.
WCW Cruiserweight Championship: Milano Collection AT defeated Matt Hardy in 5:47 with an Italian Revolution to become the new Cruiserweight champion, after Matt was distracted by Milano's valet Vittoria Valentine. (67)

2. WCW Brass Knuckles Championship: Bam Bam Bigelow defeated Tommy Dreamer in 7:20 to retain the Brass Knuckles title. The finish came after the Dudley Boyz attacked Tommy Dreamer and set him up for the Bam Bam Sault. (82)
3. Kanyon defeated Barry Windham in 10:28 with a Flatliner. (82) After the match, Bobby Heenan taunted Barry Windham and Windham attempted to go after him, being stopped by Heenan's personal security. In the scuffle, Windham was able to pull the helmet off of one of the security officers, to his own shock. After which, the other officer pulled his helmet off, revealing them both...

as Brian Adams & Bryan Clark! They level Windham with a double chokeslam, and walk off in triumph with the rest of the family. (82)
4. Adam Castle, Scott Hall, Sid Vicious, and Paul Wight defeated Chris Benoit & Jim Neidhart in 10:25 after Castle hit Benoit with the Impaler. (75)

5. WCW United States Championship: Ricky Steamboat defeated D'Lo Brown in 7:22 with a flying karate chop to win the United States championship. This marks Steamboat's fifth reign with the championship, and his first since 1990. (80)
6. In an interview, Bret Hart says that he will be the special guest referee for the match tonight between Chris Jericho and Mark Henry. Hart says that the only person who can keep the Harts in line is him, and it's his responsibility to step up and keep the family together. When asked who he thinks will win, Bret says that either man could take it, but all that matters is that it happens fairly. (69)

7. WCW World Tag Team Championship: Men of War (Sean O'Haire & Mark Jindrak) defeated Dean Malenko & Fit Finlay to retain the World Tag Team championships when O'Haire pinned Finlay with a Warhawk after 10:16. (80) After the match, Ted DiBiase entered the ring to gloat. He said that he owns their ass in wrestling, and they're never going to step into a ring again - but they're not just going to make money off of him, either! DiBiase tries to say that Malenko and Finlay are fired, but they attack him before he can finish and hit him with a double suplex! Finlay grabs a microphone and says that they quit, then turn and give a bow to the audience. (68).
8. Vampiro defeated Raven in a bloody dog collar match in 9:57, after he hit Raven with the Nail in the Coffin. To add insult to injury, Vampiro sprayed blood mist into Raven's face during the cover. (87)
9. Terry Funk defeated Jorge Estrada in 5:40 with a Piledriver. Funk seemed impressed after the match, due to Estrada surviving a lot of punishment before the ending, including kicking out of a first piledriver. (69).
10. Keiji Mutoh defeated Mike Awesome in 10:19 in their climactic cage match. The ending of the match came after Mutoh had countered an attempt from Mike Awesome to throw him off the cage, allowing him to hit a moonsault for the win. After the match, both men were down for a minute, but soon both were getting to their feet. Suddenly, the lights went out - and when they came back up, Jake Roberts was standing in the ring. Mutoh looked confused, and Mike Awesome looked furious, but Jake just smiled, laughed, and raised one open hand - leaving it in the air as he suddenly closed it into a fist. On cue, a pair of arms tore through the canvas between the two men...

and a terrifying masked figure climbed out from under the ring. The masked man rushed Mike Awesome and took him out with a clothesline, then hit Keiji Mutoh with a two-handed chokeslam. Jake Roberts laughed and stood with his new monster, who stared into the camera before the lights went out. When they came back on, neither man was in the ring. (71)
11. A video airs hyping the next match, the triple threat between Steve Austin, Dwayne Johnson, and Scott Steiner. (81)
12. Scott Steiner defeated Steve Austin and Dwayne Johnson in 16:22, after Steiner was able to force Austin to pass out in the Steiner Recliner, with Steiner getting extra leverage by using his lead pipe to wrench on Austin's neck. (79)

13. WCW International Heavyweight Championship: Sting defeated Kevin Nash in 11:03 to retain with the Scorpion Deathlock. (81)

14 WCW World Heavyweight Championship: Mark Henry defeated Chris Jericho in 14:33 with the World's Strongest Slam to become the new WCW World Heavyweight champion. As previously mentioned, Bret Hart was the special guest referee and he was able to keep order between the two Hart Foundation members. Also at ringside were Foundation members British Bulldog and Christian Cage - and surprisingly, Jericho's old tag partner Lance Storm. (87)
